Though only a fifth-grader, he is the boss who keeps the students of Join Elementary in line. He deeply admires his older brother, Tatsuya Kanamori, a handsome middle-school boss.
He is a handsome boy, though he has a foul mouth and can be arrogant. While not the brightest, he has a big heart, acts like a protective big brother, and possesses strong leadership qualities. He usually lacks focus but demonstrates his true ability when the chips are down. He loves firearms and weaponry, displaying surprising knowledge and understanding of them.
He wields the power of Fudo Myoo (Acala), and his mantra is "Namaku Samanda Bazara Dan Kan." His weapon of choice is the ofuda (talisman).
His spiritual vision allows him to see spirits only when he is in tune with their frequency; normally, he must form a hand seal for his "third eye" to see them. His specialized spiritual tools are spell-inscribed talismans—capable of summoning lightning, flames, or shikigami spirits—which he activates by chanting the corresponding mantra and hurling them at his target. He is still a work in progress and struggles with precision aiming; due to his issues with concentration, the shikigami he summons often fail to take on a stable form. He is frequently teased about this by Ryouji and Shiina.
He comes from an ordinary family—with a banker father and a somewhat laid-back mother—but his paternal grandfather and aunt run a judo dojo called the "Ryuo-mon Dojo." Consequently, the brothers' formidable fighting prowess is a result of their lineage.
