Greil (Japanese: グレイル Greil), formerly known as Gawain (pronounced /ɡəˈweɪn/[key][3]; Japanese: ガウェイン Gawain), was the former leader of the Greil Mercenaries, husband of Elena, and father of Ike and Mist. He taught Zelgius the art of swordsmanship when he was one of the Four Riders for Daein. Greil was slain by the Black Knight shortly after rescuing Elincia in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. He had a personal axe, Urvan, which was used as a gravestone for three years.
