Takeda Gohei is a hunter and very talented in training bear hounds. His training methods are harsh giving him the nickname "Dog Killer." He has trained both Shiro and Riki, and during the beginning of the series, Gin. Five years, before the events in GNG, he was out hunting with Gin's grandfather Shiro. They were attacked by the bear Akakabuto who ripped off Gohei's left ear. In return, Gohei shot out the bear’s right eye. Even though Gohei is a skilled hunter, he loses Shiro because of the monster bear and after a few years Riki.
He is a bad drunk and only talks to the villagers if they need him to hunt a bear.
