Mazinger Z is a robot created by Dr. Juzo Kabuto, this particular incarnation was built with seven black boxes that after opened grants it different abilities.
By opening the seventh Black Box, Mazinger transforms into Mazinger ZERO. Its powers greatly increase to such an extent that it becomes capable of destroying an entire planet, as an additional consequence, the pilot is incorporated into the machine causing both minds to lose control and outburst in rage. Mazinger ZERO also develops self consciousness, no longer needing to be controlled.
ZERO desires to be the only super robot in existence, viewing the others as nothing more than rivals and a threat. In the final act he manages to consume every parallel time line, but is defeated by Kouji after he inspired different creative minds to put their ideas into work, this results in the appearance of several recognizable silhouettes from parallel worlds which ZERO consumed to be freed and overwhelm him in a final attack. During his final moments ZERO warns Kouji that if he dies the Mazinger name will fall into obsolesce, but Kouji says that this will not be the case since the worlds inspired by him will let Mazinger’s legacy and spirit to live on. Relieved by hearing this, ZERO accepts his defeat.
