Hoshiumi Originally planned on playing basketball, but he decided to join the volleyball team in second grade. His reason was listed as wanting to be free from his older brother, Akitomo, who constantly sneered at Hoshiumi over their height difference. Despite his reasoning at first, Hoshiumi soon came to love the sport as he watched official matches on TV.
