Yauch is one of Jürgen's classmates at the Air Force Academy before the BETA invasion, having joined not to become an Air Force Pilot, but to achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut eventually. He is of Volga German descent, and speaks both German and Russian fluently, but detests Russia because his parents were forcefully deported during World War II.
The blue haired man has a serious, inflexible personality and is at odds with Jürgen at every turn, but at the same time is very trusted by him, Vikman and Katzen. As a TSF pilot, Yauch is an all-around type with no weaknesses.
